Don't Forget to Place Your Order Before You Watch the Superbowl

Good afternoon.

The boys and I are gearing up for the big game this evening. They want cocktail smokies and spinach and artichoke dip with tortilla chips for snacking. I’m not that excited about the game (we’re a soccer family!), but I enjoy watching the commercials. When I was studying marketing in business school, one of our class assignments was to watch the Superbowl ads. Then we debated the effectiveness of the ads’ placements. That was probably one of the most entertaining homework assignments I ever completed.

Isn’t the weather gorgeous today? I hope everyone has the opportunity to get out and enjoy it. Forecasters are predicting possible wintry mix for the Atlanta Metro in a couple of days. So, enjoy the sun while you can!

Thank you for supporting locally grown agriculture and for choosing to purchase locally. We’ll see you Wednesday.

Thanks,

Beverly

Thankfully, our area was spared the blizzard that hit Nashville, Washington, D.C., New York and places in between. I did make a run to Freshway on Friday afternoon. Although I didn’t really need anything, I wanted to see how local people were reacting to the potential for bad weather. The parking lot was packed, and customers were bustling up and down the aisles collecting items for their buggies. The dairy department was still well-stocked with milk products, but the bread aisle was decimated, and stock clerks were moving a huge pallet of bottled water into the beverage aisle. It is always better to be safe than sorry, but now that our area is safe from a Snowpocalypse, it is funny to look back at Friday’s scene of mass hysteria and laugh about it. My Facebook newsfeed is full of satirical memes this weekend, including a still-life of a loaf of bread, a gallon of milk, and a roll of toilet paper. You just have love Southerners and our reaction to even a hint of snowy weather! The sun is shining today, and the temperature now is 46 degrees – warm enough for my son’s soccer team to hold practice. So, off we go.

I hope all of you get an opportunity to get outside and enough the sun today, too. Have a great Sunday, and we’ll see you Wednesday at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

It's Sunday - Time to Order!

Good afternoon.

Baby, it’s cold outside! And our farmers’ vegetables are slim pickings this week, but that doesn’t mean we are without lots of good items to order. Our bakers are still baking, the hens are still laying, and we still have freezers full of locally produced meats. If you’re looking for beef, pork, and poultry items, we have them. We also have milk and honey.

So, hang in there. The weather won’t stay cold forever, and before you know it, the Market will be brimming with lots of Spring produce.

Concord Street Sweets is off the market this week, but will be back next week.

Have a great Sunday, and we’ll see you Wednesday.

Thanks,

Beverly

Time to Order

Hello, all! We hope you are snug and happy somewhere warm on this raw day. Is it just me, or does it feel like it might snow? My handy dandy weather station reports that it is 44 degrees outside, with 65 percent relative humidity. So, no, it’s not going to snow anytime soon.

The Wednesday Market is open for orders. Please place your orders by 10 p.m. Monday. Orders are ready for pick up between 3 and 6 p.m. Wednesday. Check the website for all of this week’s product offerings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

My son Stephen, who is a 7th grader at Pike Middle School, has Agriculture as his elective for the next 9 weeks or so. His plan is to fix up and replant the garden plot he established in September 2014 during his first agriculture project. He is looking forward to the process, and we are hoping to learn with him. As the project progresses, I’ll share photos and news of Stephen’s efforts.

Thank you for supporting locally grown agriculture and for choosing to purchase locally.

Have a great week, and we’ll see you Wednesday!

Thanks,

Beverly

I don’t know about all of you, but I am SO HAPPY to see the sun shining today! Here’s hoping that it keeps shining for a few more days to dry out the bog that has become my backyard.

Thank you to all of our farmers and customers who were flexible last week when we changed locations at the last minute. Thanks also to the ladies at the bookstore who offered us their back entryway as a place to conduct business safe from the rain and mud. We are hopeful that the weather and our yard at The Wednesday Market return to “normal” this week.

Speaking of normal, Concord Street Sweets is back to the market this week. Thank you to our customers for allowing us space and time to work through a very busy holiday catering season. We are now back, and looking forward to filling your orders.

It takes a dedicated team of volunteers working behind the scenes to coordinate your orders each week. We call ourselves The Sunshine Girls – Anna, Beverly, Irma, Sharon, and Jennifer – and it is our pleasure to serve you each and every week.

We think 2016 is going to be a great year for the Wednesday Market, as we begin celebrating our 5th year of connecting local farmers with customers eager for locally grown produce.

Happy New Year from us all, and we’ll see you Wednesday!

PICK UP AT THE BOOKSTORE TOMORROW!

Dear Customers and Farmers,

Due to the tremendous amount of rain that has fallen in the past few days, our parking lot at The Wednesday Market is impassable.

For tomorrow only, pick up your orders at the back door of A Novel Experience, the bookstore on the west side of the Square in Zebulon. There is plenty of parking in the newly paved lot near The Chamber of Commerce, and the alleyway behind the bookstore is also paved. No muddy feet for anyone!

Please plan to pick up between 3 and 5 p.m., as the bookstore has special activities planned for 6 p.m.

Hopefully, by next week, things will have dried out and maybe we’ll even have a new batch of gravel placed on the yard at The Wednesday Market.

We’ll see you tomorrow AT THE BOOKSTORE.

Thanks,

Beverly
