The weather finally feels like Fall, doesn’t it? What a blessed relief from the heat and humidity of Summer! The days are getting shorter and the nights longer as another year is winding down. Now is the season for apples, pumpkins, cranberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, hot cocoa, and chili. At our house, we are looking forward to the holidays.

As you begin to plan your own holiday celebrations, please keep The Wednesday Market in mind as a source for many of the items needed for splendid feasts. We have beef, pork, and poultry producers, as well as farmers offering dairy products and eggs. We have vegetables to serve as side dishes. We have herbs and spices, jams and jellies, and plenty of baked goods from the best bakers around. What about gifts? We have those, too, along with bath and beauty items. And, y’all know that Fall is an ideal time to plant bulbs, trees, flowers, and shrubs. So, make out your shopping list, and shop The Wednesday Market first!

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown, and we’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

The official start of Fall is Thursday, Sept. 22, when the Autumnal Equinox occurs at 9:04 p.m. EDT. We are enjoying splendid weather lately, with cool mornings and mild afternoons, complemented with refreshing breezes. Ah, don’t we wish this weather would last? Alas, 90-degree temperatures will be back by mid-week, so don’t put away all your summer clothes just yet.

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown. Have a great Sunday, and we’ll see you at the Market.

Dorrie Vincent of Touched By Grace Farm has a special announcement: “I will not have milk available the 2nd week in July through August. I apologize for this inconvenience. My girls will be back at it in September.”

While the Market may not have milk available for a while, we still have plenty of delicious and nutritious items for sale. We appreciate our loyal customers, and we encourage you to be adventurous and try something that you’ve never ordered before.

Do you remember the Life cereal commercial from the 1970s? Three little brothers are sitting at the breakfast table. One says, “What’s this stuff?” Another says, “It’s a new cereal. It’s supposed to be good for you. You try it.” The first fellow says, “I’m not going to try it. YOU try it!” Then they look over at their younger brother and hatch a plan. “Give it to Mikey. He hates everything.” Mikey takes a big spoonful of the cereal, smiles, and goes back for another. “He likes it! Hey, Mikey!” they exclaim. The moral of this story – be like Mikey and try something new!

How about honey? Need some olive oil? A Wednesday Market t-shirt makes a great gift item. Also consider our variety of bath, body, health and wellness products.

Zucchini season is upon us. Do you know all the ways that zucchini may be used? Fried, spiraled into “zoodles”, eaten raw in salads, sauteed and thrown on top of pasta, baked into zucchini bread, and even made into chocolate cake!

Tomatoes are also in season. My favorite way to use them is caprese salad – sliced tomatoes, fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella cheese with a quick splash of balsamic vinegar. A juicy tomato sandwich made with white bread and mayonnaise is a summertime delicacy!
If you are so fortunate as to have a bumper crop of tomatoes, why not make your own spaghetti sauce? Do you know that tomatoes are easy to can, freeze, or dehydrate?

How creative can you be with yellow squash? Fried, stewed, mixed into a casserole, sauteed, grilled, and pickled are ideas that come to mind.

Then, there’s okra. I like mine sliced, dusted with cornmeal, and fried in a cast iron skilled with the right amount of oil. Pickled okra is a special treat. A friend swears that okra stewed with a jar of salsa is quick and tasty.

The Wednesday Market is blessed with EXCEPTIONAL BAKERS who produce a variety of cakes, pies, cookies, and other delicacies with which to treat yourself and others.
