When I walked out the front door this morning, I was greeted by the glorious perfume of my hundred year old magnolia tree. Soon, she will break forth in enormous snowy blooms. The fig trees in the back yard have fluffed out in broad green leaves. Surely we will have a bumper crop of sweet ripe figs this summer. And I cannot wait for tomato season. May your gardens proper!

Can you believe that tomorrow is Palm Sunday? That means Easter is only one week away! If anyone would like special baked items for Easter, please let Nelda Miller of Miller-Pye Farm know. She is happy to make arrangements with you to deliver your order closer to Easter so that the goodies are as fresh as possible.
Will we have peaches this summer? I sure hope so! Perhaps the danger of freezing temperatures has passed.

Do you know that March is the beginning of strawberry season in Georgia? My Grandma Dean was a skilled gardener, and some of my best childhood memories involve times we spent together in her gardens. She grew a variety of fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, potatoes, asparagus, corn, green beans, cherries, and strawberries. One fine spring day Grandma and I set out to the strawberry patch. I carried a pail and Grandma, wearing her flipflops, lead the way down the path. We commenced picking berries. But then I came to one that just would not budge no matter how hard I pulled on it. Grandma laughed and said, “Child, you’re trying to pick my toe!” Indeed, upon further inspection, I recognized Grandma’s big toe, with the toenail painted bright red, the same vibrant color as the strawberries! Recalling this memory puts a smile on my face and warmth in my heart. I can’t wait for locally grown strawberries!

Please help us. We are still in need of egg cartons, so if you have any, please bring them with you when you come to pick up your order on Wednesday.
Also, beginning this week, we are adding a 50 cents per order fee to help offset the cost of our utilities. This charge will be added to your order at check out. As a reminder to our customers, we are and always have been an all-volunteer run organization and strive to keep our overhead costs as low as possible. Even so, we still require electricity and water. Thank you for helping us keep the lights on!
