If you have been a regular Wednesday Market customer and reader of this weblog, then you know that my favorite season is Summer. Fresh homegrown tomatoes are particularly delightful to my palate. While I like tomatoes served in various ways, I most look forward to caprese salad. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? It is not. Caprese salad is simply sliced tomatoes layered with sliced fresh mozzarella, sprinkled with a touch of coarse salt, garnished with thinly sliced fresh basil leaves, and christened with some good aged balsamic vinegar. If you have never tasted caprese salad, I hope that you will give a try. Maybe you’ll love it as much as I do!

Summer is my favorite season and is full of delights: butterflies, bumble bees, day lilies, hydrangeas, peaches, and tomatoes, to name a few! I like sunshine, puffy white clouds, and blue skies. When it’s just too hot, I welcome the cooling relief of a summer thunderstorm. And, I like front porches.
Friends, I am finally getting the front porch for which I’ve been pining for 23 years. Since the bitter cold days of February and constant rains of March and April, the project has progressed at a snail’s pace. May blessed us with much drier weather, and now, the porch has taken shape. The metal roof was put on last week, and the electrician ran the lines that will power three ceiling fans soon. Much work remains: a finished porch ceiling, lights, a swing, posts, balustrade, and steps, not to mention new landscaping. We are so excited that the project is coming along so quickly now. The new porch will enhance our lifestyle by providing sheltered outdoor space for relaxing, entertaining, and waving at our neighbors. We can’t wait!!!
