Swiss Chard Saute

Try this unusual vegetable.

The leaves cook like spinach and the stalks cook and crunch like celery. Chard has an earthy flavor similar to beets. The New Zealanders call this ‘Silverbeet’. Enjoy!

Vegetarian!

Ingredients
1 bunch of Swiss Chard
1 Tablespoon butter or olive oil
1 clove fresh garlic minced.
Nutmeg
salt and pepper to taste

Step by Step Instructions
  1. Wash the chard leaving water clinging to the leaves. Separate the leaf from the stalk and put the stalks in the fridge [for the Swiss Chard with raisins and Pine nuts recipe the next day] Cut the leaves into thin ribbons. Heat oil or butter in a pan and sauté the garlic until fragrant. Add chard and sauté until limp and tender about 8 minutes. Season with salt pepper and a very light sprinkle of nutmet Enjoy!
