It’s veggie season, y’all! Just this week, our tiny garden yielded about 7 or 8 jalapeno peppers, along with a little bitty green bell pepper. The tomato plants are taller than our 8-year-old boy and should be producing very soon. I get so excited every year when tomatoes come into season. To me, nothing is better than caprese salad – that Italian invention of slices of fresh mozzarella cheese, alternating with fresh sliced tomatoes, accented with fresh shredded basil, seasoned with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and sprinkled with a bit of kosher salt! Did I just break a record for the number of times “fresh” was used in a sentence?

And, it’s peach season. I haven’t had a chance to buy any yet but am looking forward to my ritual of making peach salsa. I didn’t make any last summer, as I couldn’t find any good peaches.

Then, there are cucumbers. I love a salad made of cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, vinegar, olive oil and dill. It’s simply refreshing served cold on a hot day.

I could go on and on about all the joys of fresh fruits and vegetables and herbs and all the other lovely items that we at The Wednesday Market produce, but I think I should conclude this evening by posting this notice and letting you place your orders!

Here’s hoping that you all have a happy Sunday. We’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

One more week…my children and I have one more week of school to get through, and then freedom! We are looking forward to summer, sleeping in, swimming, special activities and camps, movie days, and having the freedom to come and go without any certain schedule. We will take our annual trips to Savannah in June and the North Carolina mountains in July.

If you are a longtime reader of this blog, you know that summer is my favorite season. Not only do I celebrate the arrival of another birthday, I also celebrate the arrival of tomato season and peach season! I am looking forward to dining on caprese salad and canning batches of peach salsa.

I hope you all have a restful Sunday. Thank you for supporting locally grown agriculture, and we look forward to seeing you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly

Can you believe that this is the last Sunday in April? Time is flying by! At our house we are looking forward to all of the celebrations and rituals that accompany the end of the school year: honors night, soccer banquet, spring concert, field day, and more. It’s a busy time of year for us, and we long for the lazy days of summer. And summer means tomato season – my favorite time of year!

Even though it’s a bit of a nuisance getting in and out of my car during the rain, I am happy that it’s pouring down. Yesterday was busy with transplanting tomatoes and peppers into the garden spot at our house. And the houseplants that have already been moved outdoors were treated with new soil. So the rain is nourishing them all this afternoon.

How are you spending this rainy day? Believe it or not, we have a soccer game scheduled and are waiting on word whether it will be played. Soccer players are hearty folks. Generally if the fields aren’t standing in water, and there is no lightning and thunder, soccer games go on. I guess I’ll wear my rubber boots!

We are supposed to have rainy weather through Wednesday, so bring your umbrellas when you come to get your orders. We’ll see you then.

Thanks,

Beverly
