Order Now for Thanksgiving!

Good evening. The Wednesday Market is open for orders.

As promised, we are opening a day early this week! Shifting the ordering and pick up schedule a day earlier will allow our producers and volunteers to be in the kitchen on Wednesday to prep for their Thanksgiving feasts.

Please place your order by Sunday at 10 p.m. Orders will be ready for pick up between 2 and 4 p.m. Tuesday. See the website for this week’s product offerings. Here is the link: https://wednesdaymarket.locallygrown.net/market

Of special note: If you order baked goods from Miller Pye that you want to serve on Thanksgiving Day, please make arrangements with Nelda Miller to deliver your goods sometime on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

While I am so thankful for the rain because it has not rained in about a month, the weather today is cold and dreary. It’s the perfect evening to stay in and cook up a big batch of chili! That’s what we are going to do.

We hope you have a restful, warm, and cozy weekend, and we’ll see you at the Market!

Thanks,

Beverly

Can you believe that the calendar turned over to November this week? The busy holiday season is just around the corner. We encourage our customers to start planning your celebrations now. Thanksgiving is Nov. 23. As in years past, we are shifting the ordering pattern for that week. The system will be turned on for orders on Friday, Nov. 17, and will remain open until Sunday, Nov. 19. Orders will be ready for pick up on Tuesday, Nov. 21. If you order baked goods from Miller Pye that you want to serve on Thanksgiving Day, please make arrangements with Nelda Miller to deliver your goods sometime on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Please mark your calendars now with these special ordering opportunities.

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown. We look forward to seeing you at the Market this week.

For those of you who may not know, our beloved volunteer Sharon Fox passed away last Sunday at her residence in Locust Grove. We are shocked and saddened by her sudden passing. Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Please join us in expressing condolences to her family. A master gardener, Sharon was a passionate advocate for locally grown agriculture, and especially so for the organically grown fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs which she produced on her farm. Sharon loved animals and counted chickens, ducks, goats, and dogs among the members of her menagerie. Sharon was also an excellent baker. We will miss her welcoming smile as she greeted our producers and customers every week. We know that Sharon would want the Market to grown and thrive, so we will continue the mission. Thank you, Sharon, for all that you did during your many years of volunteerism to support The Wednesday Market!

Yours truly,

Nelda Miller and Beverly Walter

How do we know that the season has changed? Astronomical seasons depend on how the Earth moves around the sun. Equinoxes, when the sun lands equally on both hemispheres, mark the start of spring and autumn. Solstices, when the Earth sees its strongest tilt toward or away from the sun, kick off summer and winter. Yesterday was the autumnal equinox.

Did you know there are other ways to track seasons? For meteorologists, the seasons are defined by the months with temperatures and weather often associated with each. Summer, for example, runs from June through August, when temperatures feel most like “summer.”

My favorite season is summer. I must say, though, that the cooler weather of the last week or so is a welcome relief from the oppressive temperatures and humidity we have experienced this summer. Our home’s air conditioning units have taken turns being out of commission during some of the hottest weather we have had in years. Even my car’s air conditioning system had to be serviced a few weeks ago. Whew! Fall is a blessing!

Thank you for supporting Georgia Grown, no matter what season we’re in! We’ll see you at the Market.

Thanks,

Beverly
